What is ETL (extract, transform, load)?
The ETL process the first step in the implementation of a Business Intelligence system. It consists in a data management process that allows extracting and moving data from multiple sources, transform it and load it into the destination to process it and create an analysis of the information. This data can be files, tables, unstructured data, social networks or applications data, etc.
- E (Extract): The data is analyzed at its source and extracted from it. Subsequently, it is then checked in against quality and format criteria. Finally, if necessary, convert the data to a certain format to begin the transformation process.
- T (Transform): The raw data is modified so that the correct formats are presented. Duplicates are removed, business rules are applied, and information classification is carried out.
- L (Load): The processed data is moved to the target system.
